Diagramming: Shapes

Shapes feature in YouDesign allows you to easily add, move, and customize shapes on your canvas. With drag-and-drop functionality, resizing, rotation, and locking controls, you can tailor each element to fit your design needs. Modify shapes, copy, and layer them to create structured and dynamic diagrams efficiently.

Adding Shapes

You can add shapes to the board using these methods:

Click & Add

  1. Choose or search for the desired shape from the Shapes library in the Diagramming panel.
  2. Single left-click on the shape.
  3. Move your mouse on the canvas where you want the shape to be placed.
  4. Click again on the desired location to place the shape.

Drag & Drop

  1. Choose or search for the desired shape from the Shapes library in the Diagramming panel.
  2. Left-click and hold to drag the shape to the desired location on the canvas.
  3. Release the mouse button to drop the shape.

Moving Shapes

You can move shapes by clicking and dragging them to a new location. Additionally, you can multi-select and move several shapes at once:

Method 1: Selection Box

  1. Drag the selection box across the shapes you want to select.
  2. Once selected, drag and drop them to a new location.

Note: Press and hold the left mouse button for at least one second to activate selection mode.

Method 2: Multi-Select

  1. Hold the Ctrl (Cmd on Mac) key while clicking on individual shapes to toggle selection.
  2. Once selected, drag the entire selection to a new location.

Removing Shapes

To remove a shape from the canvas:

  • Select the shape and press Backspace or Delete on your keyboard.
  • Alternatively, select the shape and use the Delete option in the toolbar dropdown menu.

Locking Controls

Locking a shape prevents unintended changes to its position or content. Here’s how you can lock or unlock shapes:

  1. Lock: Select a shape (or group) and choose the Lock option in the toolbar.

  2. Unlock: Select a shape and hold the Unlock button until the toolbar appears.

You can use the lock controls for multiple selected items at once.


Rotating Shapes

To rotate a shape:

  1. Select the shape.
  2. Drag the Rotation arrow icon around the shape to adjust its angle.

Resizing Shapes

You can adjust the size of shapes by:

  1. Selecting the shape.
  2. Hovering over the shape’s edge until the arrow indicator appears.
  3. Clicking and dragging the indicator to resize the shape horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

Modify Shape Type

You can change a shape to another shape or convert it into a text box:

  1. Select the shape.
  2. In the toolbar, click the Switch type option.
  3. Choose a new shape type, or press "All Shapes" for more options.

Copy & Duplicate

To copy or duplicate a shape:

  • Right-click the shape, select Duplicate, or use Ctrl/Cmd + D.
  • You can also use Ctrl/Cmd + C to copy and Ctrl/Cmd + V to paste the shape.

Positioning

Control the stacking order of shapes on the canvas:

  • Bring to Front: Select a shape and use the Bring to Front option in the toolbar.
  • Send to Back: Select Send to Back to move the shape behind all other shapes.
